JENNIFER SPOTTS, Ph.D Are
you accomplishing all that you want? Are your personal relationships,
work experiences, and home life where you want them to be? Do
you ever sense that you or your children are not reaching your
full potential?
It is common for people to face various troubles and transitions
at different periods in their lives. Counseling can help you and/or
your child address typical or normal issues in a comfortable atmosphere.
I work with clients experiencing physical, emotional, developmental,
behavioral, or mental struggles improve their overall well-being.
Mental health can be measured by a good quality of life and strong
interpersonal relationships. Jennifer's approach emphasizes the
process of change and development by focusing on belief systems
that motivate behavior. She treats clients of all ages but has
a particular interest in working with children. In the therapeutic
setting therapy approaches are geared toward the child. This can
mean, especially for younger children, that therapy takes place
through play, art, music, or a variety of other tactics. Young
children lack the ability to analyze their problems in the same
way that adults do, therefore specific therapy techniques are
used that best address the communicative abilities of the child.
Jennifer works from a perspective that recognizes the importance
of early life attachment. She incorporates interventions and techniques
from a variety of theoretical approaches, including cognitive-behavioral,
psychodynamic, behavioral, interpersonal, rational emotive theory,
reality therapy, family systems, play therapy, and attachment
theory into her treatment.
With adult clients, Jennifer has a strong belief that each person
is an expert about his or her inner functioning. Therefore, therapeutic
goals and techniques are tailored to each clients needs in a collaborative
and supportive setting.
Jennifer has extensive training working with people across the
life span from various socioeconomic statuses. Her clients are
racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse from a variety of
settings.
Jennifer received both her Bachelor's and Doctor of Philosophy
degrees from the University of Iowa. She completed her Internship
at the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx,
New York. She has worked with rural and urban populations in Wisconsin
since 2004.
Types of clients seen: Children, adolescents, adults, couples,
and families.
