Practices in Waukesha
I started my career in the helping professions as a case manager in the Milwaukee community, assisting low income individuals with accessing care and services to substance use treatment. In addition to working with those seeking substance use treatment in Milwaukee County, I also spent two years in private practice working with a variety of individuals in the Brookfield, New Berlin, Wauwatosa and Waukesha areas. I define my therapeutic approach as eclectic, as I understand that not all clients benefit from the same treatment approach. While I am knowledgeable of many evidence based approaches, I primarily utilize a DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) approach, as well as CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) and mindfulness, which I believe is essential in the treatment process for clients to work towards their goals. I enjoy working especially with teens and their families, utilizing a holistic approach by looking at the complete dynamic of the teen’s family and involving them in the treatment process. In addition to working with families and teens, I also have experience working with those that struggle with a dual diagnosis of mental health and substance use issues, as well as anxiety, depression, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder and LGBT Issues.
Lastly, I am a firm believer that a good portion of the client’s progress is based on my ability to create a safe and vulnerable space where they can tell pieces of their life that they may not have been able to share in the past. One of the ways that I have been able to create this space for my clients has been based on my own ability to incorporate DBT and CBT based skills into my own life (a two year old daughter and a nine year old son who is diagnosed with ADHD provides many opportunities for this.). In essence, I cannot expect clients to do something that I myself am not vulnerable enough to try.
I look forward to working with you to create a life that you deserve and always envisioned!
