“Fragile Neighborhoods: Repairing American Society One Zip Code at a Time,” by Seth D. Kaplan

While this might seem to be an unusual choice for a mental health newsletter, our current level of social isolation is actually considered a mental health crisis.  We tend to view our mental health in isolation. If we enjoy good mental health, we believe we are making good choices – or that we are simply lucky. If we are experiencing mental health challenges, we refer to “chemical imbalances” or blame ourselves for our emotional weakness. I believe that viewing mental health in isolation is a mistake. We all exist in the context of systems: family, friend groups, community, perhaps church. As this book illustrates, our wellbeing is inextricably tied to our connectedness. The author offers innovative ideas for building community and discovering and supporting our common humanity.
